01 - Combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder in a mixing bowl. Gently mix to combine and shape into four equal patties approximately ¾ inch thick.
02 - Heat grill or skillet to medium-high and brush surface lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.
03 - Grill patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side until cooked to desired doneness. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt, if using.
04 - Lightly toast burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden.
05 - In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. Spread evenly on the cut sides of each bun.
06 - Layer lettuce leaves on the bottom bun, add cooked beef patty, then top with tomato and avocado slices along with any optional toppings. Cover with the top bun.
07 - Serve immediately, paired with preferred sides such as sweet potato fries or a green salad.
