Mini Grilled Cheese Hearts (Printable Version)

Bite-sized grilled hearts with melty cheese and toasted bread, great for snacks or lunchboxes.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread

01 - 6 slices soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread

→ Cheese

02 - 6 slices cheddar, American, or your favorite melting cheese

→ Butter

03 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

# Step-by-Step:

01 - Using a small heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out two hearts from each bread slice (12 hearts total). Repeat with cheese slices to create 12 cheese hearts.
02 - Place one cheese heart between two bread hearts to form each mini sandwich.
03 - Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside of each assembled sandwich.
04 - Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches buttered side down and cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bread is crisp.
05 - Serve warm immediately.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • They come together in about 20 minutes flat with ingredients you definitely already have
  • The buttery crispy edges combined with gooey melted cheese centers are impossibly addictive
02 -
  • Do not overcrowd the pan or you will steam the sandwiches instead of getting that crispy exterior we are after
  • Let them rest for about 30 seconds off the heat before serving so the cheese sets slightly and does not ooze out everywhere
03 -
  • Use low to medium heat instead of high so the bread gets golden and crispy before the cheese burns
  • Wrap the cookie cutter in a small piece of plastic wrap if the bread keeps sticking to it
